Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) for developments in England

Building a future where nature can thrive.

  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a legal requirement in England under the Environment Act 2021. It ensures that any new development leaves the natural environment in a measurably better state than before.
  • Since February 2024, most planning applications have been legally obliged to demonstrate how they will deliver a minimum 10% net gain in biodiversity, secured for at least 30 years.

Ground Control has been creating and restoring habitats at our nature recovery sites since 2021 in the form of woodland, scrub, ponds, hedgerows, and grassland.

Whether you need to buy BNG units, a biodiversity baseline survey or habitat management and monitoring plan (HMMP), you are in safe hands.

Buy BNG Units off-site

If it's not possible to achieve a 10% biodiversity net gain on-site, developers can buy BNG units from a Ground Control off-site habitat bank.

Biodiversity Baseline Surveys

Calculating the initial quality of the species, habitats, and ecosystems in a specific area, pre-development.

Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs)

Detailed HMMPs outlining how habitats created or enhanced as part of a development project will be managed to secure long-term biodiversity gains.
