We are part of a climate action powerhouse

Ground Control is one of over 300 signatories to The Climate Pledge, supporting a global commitment to be net zero carbon by 2040

On 14^th March 2022, The Climate Pledge welcomed nearly 100 new signatories including the world’s largest container shipping company, Maersk; leading enterprise software developer SAP; the North American timberland company Weyerhaeuser; the largest residential solar company in the U.S., Sunrun; and the leading connected car and audio services brand, HARMAN.

Ground Control joined the pledge back in October 2021 and is now one of over 300 Pledge signatories contributing to over £2.7 trillion in global annual revenues, across 51 industries in 29 countries, demonstrating the collective impact The Climate Pledge can have in addressing climate change.

As a proud signatory of The Climate Pledge, we advocate the positive impact of nature on our planet in everything we do. Like many of our fellow supporters, we have set ambitious environmental targets that we are showing evidence of achieving sooner rather than later. For example, in March 2021, we were certified by the Carbon Trust as carbon neutral, four years ahead of our original target. We are now collaborating with Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership on our biodiversity positive strategy and with the Carbon Trust to achieve carbon net-zero by 2025.

In 2020, we set up our Evergreen Fund, dedicating five percent of annual profits to investments in carbon-reducing technologies and woodland creation. In the past 12 months, we have invested £615,000 in six ventures and planted 42,000 trees in protected areas. We are working closely with customers and private landowners to plant one million trees in the next five years.

This new milestone for The Climate Pledge is a great achievement. It really is now a climate action powerhouse and another fine example of human nature at its best.

In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism co-founded The Climate Pledge, a commitment to reach the Paris Agreement 10 years early and be net zero carbon by 2040. Now, 312 organisations have signed The Climate Pledge, sending an important signal that there will be rapid growth in demand for products and services that help reduce carbon emissions.

Signatories to The Climate Pledge must agree to:

Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.
Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
Neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
