Assessing the initial quality of your site's species and habitats
A Biodiversity Baseline Survey is an initial assessment of the species, habitats, and ecosystems in a specific area before any significant development or interventions occur. It establishes a reference point against which future changes in biodiversity can be measured.
Our baseline surveys use the DEFRA biodiversity metric scheme to
- Quantify the biodiversity value of a site
- Identify key species, habitats, and ecosystem services to monitor
- Calculate the number of biodiversity units the site can produce.
- Assess habitat size, condition, distinctiveness, strategic significance, temporal risk, spatial risk
Our data will report on
- Species identification (richness, abundance, diversity, protected species)
- Habitat characterisation (forest, wetland, grassland types)
- Environmental parameters (soil type, water quality, climate).
