Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Units

High-integrity BNG Units available now
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) became a legal requirement in the UK in February 2024. This means that developers must leave the environment in a 10% measurably better state than before by not only retaining and reinstating, but creating extra habitats, hedgerows, or watercourses as part of the new development.
These extra habitats that comprise net gain are known as BNG units.
What is a BNG Unit?
A "BNG unit" refers to a standard unit of measurement used to assess and quantify BNG, ensuring developments have a positive impact on the natural environment, rather than a net loss.
BNG units quantify biodiversity value based on habitat type, condition, and size. The main habitat types include habitat units, hedgerow units, and river units.
Units should be of high integrity. This means that they must meet stringent quality and delivery standards to ensure long-term ecological benefits and be effective in compensating for biodiversity losses from development projects for at least 30 years.
Buy BNG Units from Ground Control
Developers can buy BNG Units from Ground Control's award-winning offsite habitat banks
Our high-integrity units allow developers to fulfil their legal obligations through the purchase of off-site units from our very own self-cultivated habitat banks.
Choose from a range of units to offset your development including woodland, scrub, ponds, hedgerows, and grassland.
Our BNG Units are available now for immediate purchase.
Lease your land for BNG units to Ground Control
Landowners can lease their under-used land that has the potential for high-yielding BNG habitat banks
Our Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) experts assist landowners in identifying areas of their land and income streams that can be diversified. Landowners can lease their land for the creation of Habitat Banks, which can then be sold as biodiversity units.
